Additional Product Information

In the mid 1890s, coffee companies competed to see who could come out with the best advertising trade cards geared towards children.  It was a strategic move since children would likely beg their Mothers to buy the coffee brand that had the best toys in them.  Mc Laughlin's and Lion Coffee Companies out did all the others!!  They did series upon series to keep folks coming back for more coffee!!!  The cards and dolls were lithographic printed and for that reason, the colors remain vivid to this day, 123 years later.  I have a huge collection of antique advertising paper dolls and toys.  Photos will be taking me weeks to complete, so keep coming back to see what I have newly listed.  Overall, there may be tears, creases, missing standards (tabs) or writing/scrapes on the backs of them.  Please view the photos closely for the best and only description of this lot.  I'm was trying to be very detailed with my photos so you can see what you're purchasing.

This set of the Czarina of Russia is complete with all 4 pieces. The screen has some amazing detail which I've shown in a photo.  Trying to complete these sets is difficult since the furniture pieces got the most play by children and the crown pieces were so small they got lost.  This set is in amazing condition for a 125 year old paper item. However, there is some tape and black out spots on the back of them.  I couldn't figure out what purpose that served since there are no tears or holes? And the doll does have a neck crease. The last photo is from a reference book I have that shows the completed sets of each of the 8 Royals that Mc Laughlin Coffee offered.  The book is not included.

My huge paper doll collection has come from estates, other collectors and eBay.  I don't know previous storage history and they could have been in homes where smoking has occurred.  I have a poor sense of smell at my age and I don't know if that lingers.  My collection is stored in a smoke/pet free area of my home, with a dehumidifier running 24/7. .

Thanks for taking an interest in this antique paper toy.  All questions are welcome!!!
